Pin 2 0f the SIT2410802 allows connection of an external resistor RSL, which is used to program the slope of the supply current vs supply voltage characteristics (see Fig. 2) and hence the supply current up to the initial voltage (Vsi). This initial voltage remains constant independent of RSL. The supply current drawn prior to triggering is inversely proportional with RSL, decreasing for an increasing value of resistance. Thus, increasing the value of RSL, will decrease the amount of AC ringing current required to trigger the device. Longer subscriber loops are possible since less voltage is dropped per unit length of loop wire due to the lower current level. RSL can also be used to compensate for smaller AC coupling capacitors (Cs on Fig. 3) (higher impedance) to the line which is used to alter the ringer equivalence number of a tone ringer circuit.

Using the calculated values for TR(max) and PD, the maxi- mum allowable value for the junction-to-ambient thermal re- sistance, e(J_A), can now be found: O(J-A) = TR (max)/PD IMPORTANT: If the maximum allowable value for e(J_A) is found to be > 530C/W for the T0-220 package, > 800C/W for the T0-263 package, or >1740C/W for the SOT-223 pack- age, no heatsink is needed since the package alone will dis- sipate enough heat to satisfy these requirements. If the calculated value for O(J_A)falls below these limits, a heatsink is required.
